Performance Stage Scaffolding at Reading Football Club

Project Overview

ROAR Scaffolding completed a specialist commercial scaffolding installation for Reading Football Club at the Select Car Leasing Stadium in Reading, Berkshire — a venue still widely known locally by its former name, the Madejski Stadium.

The project involved providing a temporary scaffold platform configured for use as a performance stage outside the Sir John Madejski Stand. Although modest in scale compared with many of our larger access and temporary-roof projects, the installation demonstrates the versatility of scaffold systems and our ability to deliver practical temporary structures within active commercial, sporting and entertainment environments.

The platform was arranged to provide a level and clearly defined performance area, with scaffold components used to create the required supporting structure and edge protection. The layout was coordinated with the existing covered external area and surrounding pedestrian space, allowing the stage to sit neatly within the available footprint.

Working at the Home of Reading Football Club

It was a pleasure for the ROAR Scaffolding team to carry out work for Reading Football Club at one of Berkshire's most recognisable sporting venues.

The prominent location directly beneath the Sir John Madejski Stand signage provided an unmistakable backdrop to the installation. Our branded vehicle and operatives were also clearly visible on site, creating a strong local connection between ROAR Scaffolding and the club.

For local businesses, contractors and supporters, the stadium remains closely associated with the Madejski name. Including both the current Select Car Leasing Stadium name and the familiar Madejski Stadium name accurately reflects how the venue is recognised across Reading and the wider Thames Valley.

A Practical Temporary Performance Platform

Performance and event structures must be planned around their intended use, available space and surrounding public areas. For this installation, the scaffold platform was configured to provide a practical temporary stage while working around the existing canopy, frontage and access routes.

The structure also needed to be erected and removed efficiently, limiting disruption within a busy stadium environment. Following use, the platform was dismantled in a controlled sequence and the components removed from the area.

This project highlights how scaffold systems can be used for more than conventional building access. Temporary platforms can support performances, presentations, community events and other short-duration activities, subject to the appropriate design, loading and site requirements.
